Support Groups

4th Trimester Group

£7 (£5 concessions) Refreshments included.

This group is facilitated by Katharine Milazzo, Chartered Counselling Psychologist, specialising in pre – and post natal mental health. This group is for parents and carers of babies 0-6 months. Pregnant women and their partners are also welcome in the last 3 months of the pregnancy.

This is a support group which will operate on a drop-in basis.
Life with a newborn baby can be unpredictable so please come when you can – even if you arrive late.
You are welcome whether you are a first -time parent or have other children.

This group is offering more than just a cup of tea and a chat…

The transition into parenthood changes your life in many different ways – practically, physically, psychologically and emotionally.

The first few months after the birth of your baby can be an intense time of highs and lows.

The vast majority of parents find this to be a challenging time.

This group offers parents the opportunity to explore a range of issues with an experienced professional within a safe, confidential, non-judgemental setting.

Listening to other parentsand sharing stories within a therapeutic group setting can be a powerful way of helping people to explore and normalise their own experiences, to begin to trust their own parenting instincts, and to gain confidence.

We will discuss topics which are specifically relevant to this early stage of parenthood. The topics are not set before the group every week in order that we can respond to what people want to discuss on that day. Examples of topics that are likely to come up will be:

  • Sleeping and coping with tiredness
  • Feeding baby and how your partner can help with this
  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed – post natal depression and anxiety
  • Mindful parenting – how this can help throughout our parenting journey
  • Life with a newborn – I’m no longer I control of my life! Changes in your sense of self
  • Changing relationships – with my partner, my parents, my other children, and my friends.

We respect the fact that every family will have their own way of parenting. This group will not be advocating any specific parenting style or technique, and will not be about telling you how to parent. The aim is to help and support you during these early stages and to help you begin to trust your own instincts and believe in yourself as a parent.

Talking Space

£5 (£4 concessions) Refreshments included.

Run by Katharine Milazzo, Chartered Counselling Psychologist, specialising in pre and postnatal mental health.
This is a drop-in support group for parents and carers of children up to the age of 3 years. Pregnant women and their partners are also welcome.

Parenting can often be a rollercoaster of highs and lows. This drop-in group offers a safe non-judgemental space to share experiences and stories.

Although this is a friendly and informal group, it offers more than simply a chat with a hot drink and a biscuit.

Structured group peer support is a powerful way of enabling parents and carers to take care of their own psychological health. By doing this we can also help to encourage the psychological health of our children, and to help to develop healthy family relationships.

The group will discuss issues that come up week to week. If there is a need to focus on particular topics in more depth, we will arrange a workshop or group sessions at another time.

Discussions will commonly include such things as:

  • Tiredness
  • Feeling overwhelmed – pre and post natal depression and anxiety
  • Turning into parents
  • Making room for Baby – headroom and heartroom
  • What have I done all day?
  • What does Baby want?
  • Your own childhood experiences and how that affects how you parent
  • Mindful parenting – trusting your instincts

Please feel free to come along to talk – or not to talk, to share or not share – whether it’s a good day, or a challenging day. Be in the company of other parents / carers at the same stage, with an experienced group facilitator, talking about the family issues that matter to you on that day.

We respect the fact that every family will have their own way of parenting. This group will not be advocating any specific parenting style or technique, and will not be about telling you how to parent. The aim is to help and support you during these early stages and to help you begin to trust your own instincts and believe in yourself as a parent.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
